I've been wanting to paint rocks and make a little rock garden for a long while now. And, we finally got around to doing it!
We collected our rocks over time. Then, we washed the dirt off of them and let them dry.
We used many different sizes, shapes and colors!
T found some mossy sticks to paint as well.
A good hour or so later, we finally finished painting all our rocks and set them out near our front step.
I loved how they turned out.
T now has been asking to paint rocks every single time we go outside. I do want to do it again, especially since our paint, sadly, got quickly washed away by the rain.
I sprayed acrylic sealent spray on them in hopes that it would keep the paint on the rocks at least a little while. I even put the rocks under the overhang of our house, but they quickly washed off in the first rain. I admit, I was quite disappointed. We both worked really hard on our rock paintings. But, then again, it just gives us a good reason to paint more rocks! And seeing how T loves doing it so much, I definitely see us doing this activity again. Especially when the weather starts to warm up. (Hopefully soon!)
After we made our rock garden, T was being her silly, 3-year old self and started making funny faces.
Then, she asked to take pictures of me making silly faces. So, I obliged.
I love days like these.
Painting rocks! What a great idea. I remember doing that as a kid. I love the funny faces. Both of you are beautiful. :)
ReplyDeleteLove this! My daughter and I did painted rocks a while ago, but like you, the rain washed it all away. <> Next time we paint rocks I'm going to make them paperweights!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm...are our girls to young to spray paint?!
I didn't think of spray painting! I don't know.. it's tempting.. but it seems like it would be pretty fumey..??
ReplyDeleteI debated the idea of acrylic paints as well. But, probably wouldn't wash up well. And, not sure if it would stay either, even with the sealer sprayed on them. I couldn't find anything on the internet when I googled either. The rocks would have to be kept inside, I guess.
Painting rocks is an old favorite of ours at preschool too. The paint does wash off over time, but I like to think of it as a transient art experience :) Often when the paint pots still have some paint left in them at the end of the day we see if anyone wants to take them outside and paint the rocks in the garden. It is a great way to use up the dregs of the paint!
ReplyDeleteHm, I am thinking about permanent markers as an alternative. Wonder how that would go over?
ReplyDeleteHmm, that might work. I might try that one.
ReplyDeleteI love these! I've been looking for a way to boost my home's curb appeal

What fun. I love them all together in a jumble of brilliant colors. Sad to watch them disappear, but another example of our constantly changing lives, I suppose. And fun to do again!

I love your rocks. We painted some and then sealed them with PVA Glue - two coats seem to be enough to stop the rain washing away your art.
ReplyDeleteVery inspired by your colours, and I really want to paint rocks now!
Pva glue?? I will definitely have to try it out. I'll let you know how it works once we do it. Thanks so much for the suggestion!
